The first service of Assistance League of Southern California, Good Samaritan, was established in 1919 to help people who had been affected by World War I--the unemployed, homeless and widows with children. Over the decades, this service has changed to meet growing needs of the community, and today it is known as Family Service Agency.
Families or individuals needing guidance or therapeutic help can turn to Family Service Agency where bilingual, professionally trained social workers and counselors are available at the site. The Family Preservation Program, funded by the Department of Children and Family Services, helps families at high risk of having their children removed from the home by the courts and gives them resources to keep their children safe and their families intact.
The following services are offered to families:
- Individual and family therapy
- Adolescent counseling
- Marital counseling
- Child abuse prevention/intervention
- Parenting classes
